I craft each piece entirely by hand, using a ceramic production technique called slip casting. Here’s a glimpse into some key steps of the process:
Pouring the slip
After cleaning and preparing the molds, I mix the liquid clay, or slip, to just the right consistency. Then comes the exciting part: I pour the slip into each mold, carefully timing each step to create the perfect thickness for every design.
Demolding and drying
Once the slip has set, it's time to demold. I carefully remove the pieces from their molds, revealing the shape and design. Afterward, the pieces are left to dry, allowing them to solidify further before the next steps in the process.
Glazing
After the first firing, when the pieces are bisque, I apply the glaze. Each piece is carefully coated with an even layer, enhancing its design. The glaze adds colour, texture, and a protective seal, preparing the pieces for the final firing.
